Replacing an injured Tommy Davis in early May; “Sweet Lou” joined the Dodgers and became a major contributor in the club’s drive to the World Championship in 1965 … in his first appearance; he went into the game as a pinch-runner; stole second and later scored the winning run … homered in his first start and also slugged a homer in late September to beat the Reds 2-1 and put the Dodgers in first place to stay … scored the winning run as the Dodgers beat the Braves to clinch the National League pennant … batted .296 in the 1965 World Series against the Minnesota Twins and hit two home runs; including the go-ahead shot in the decisive Game 7 … hit .272 with 17 home runs to help the Dodgers win another pennant in 1966 … batted .270 in 1967; his third and final season with the Dodgers … his eight-year major league career also included stints with the Chicago Cubs (1960; 1968); the Los Angeles (1961) and California (1969) Angels; Milwaukee Braves (1962) and Cleveland Indians (1968) … now a member of the Dodgers Speakers Bureau.
