Posted a lifetime batting average of .281 and stole 586 bases over 14 seasons in the majors with Los Angeles, Pittsburgh and Montreal . . . in 12 seasons with the Dodgers (1959-66, 1968-72), the speedy shortstop stole a franchise-record 490 bases . . for six straight seasons (1960-65), he led the National League in stolen bases and helped shape the way the game is played with his then-record 104 stolen bases in 1962 as he became the first player in modern history to reach the 100-plateau in thefts while also breaking Ty Cobb’s 47-year old single-season mark . . . named NL Most Valuable Player and All-Star Game MVP in 1962 . . . in 1960, stole 50 bases, which was the most in the National League in 37 years . . . was a five-time all-star and won the Gold Glove Award in 1961 & 1962 . . . played on Dodger World Championship clubs in 1959, 1963 and 1965, when he had 94 steals . . . also played on pennatnt-winning club of 1966 . . has served as a baserunning instructor for five different organizations since his retirement as an active player in 1972 . . . served as major league manager with Seattle (1980-81) . . . currently assists the organization as a bunting and baserunning instructor . . . has served as a member of the Dodgers’ Speakers Bureau . . .
