Was a catcher for 10 seasons in the Major Leagues with the Dodgers (1964-70) and California Angels (1971-73) . . . since retiring as a player; has been a major league manager and coach as well as a broadcaster . . . played 574 big league games . . . caught three no-hitters during his career; including Sandy Koufax’s perfect game in 1965 . . . also was behind the plate for no-hitters by Bill Singer (1970) and Nolan Ryan (1973) . . . was a member of the Dodgers’ World Championship team of 1965 and another pennant-winner the following season . . . served as a manager for Cleveland (1977-79); the Chicago White Sox (1989-91); the New York Mets (1992-93); Montreal (2001) and Florida (2002-03) . . . honored as the 1990 American League Manager of the Year after guiding the White Sox to a 94-68 record . . . was a coach for the Indians (1975-77) and New York Yankees (1979-88) . . . spent time in the broadcast booth from 1994-2000; working with CBS radio and television and FOX . . . signed by the Dodgers out of Rutgers University in 1963 and played just one season of minor league ball before joining the major league club in 1964.
