Another Brooklyn Dodger Great Preacher Roe passed away Sunday at the age of 92. Those of us who had the fortune to meet Preacher at Camp know what a great person he was in addition to his baseball skill. The Dodgers family and the Camp family is a bit sadder today.

The baseball gods have been shedding a few tears in Vero Beach the last couple of days, probably because this is truly the last Camp to be held at famed and fabled Dodgertown. But the 61 campers who made the final trek are pumped and ready to play ball. Now if it would only stop raining.

I got a lot of questions last Saturday about why I was at Dodger Stadium and not playing. After all it was “The Show.” No, I wasn’t injured though the old knees are not what they used to be especially after a full week at camp and then five innings of catching in our league game the following week. No, I have played at the stadium on just about every other day camp vets have been able to play in “the Show” so I thought I’d sit this one out and watch. Probably the only time I’ll ever get to watch a game from the “expensive” seats right behind home. Nice! And besides what could be better than spending a Saturday at Dodger Stadium watching baseball.
